# Google Won't Remove a Fake Review? What to Do Next

Google won't remove a fake review when it decides the review does not break its policies, and that decision can be challenged once. Before you file anything else, check where your report stands and what Google actually ruled. Then build the appeal around the policy, and know when the question has become a legal one.

You pay only if the review is removed.

## Check the Google review report status

Open Google's Reviews Management Tool and choose the option to check the status of a review you reported earlier. According to Google's [help article on reported reviews](https://support.google.com/business/answer/4596773), each report shows one of these statuses:

- Decision pending: Google is still evaluating the review.
- Report reviewed, no policy violation: Google found the review compliant and left it up.
- Escalated: Google asks you to check your email for updates.

Google's help center says evaluation typically takes several days. Timing depends on each platform's own review process; we tell you what to expect in your audit.

## How a Google review appeal works

1. **Open the appeal options.** In the Reviews Management Tool, select the option to check reviews you reported and see appeal options.
2. **Choose the reviews.** Google's help center describes a one-time appeal and lets you select up to 10 eligible reviews.
3. **Fill out the form.** The appeal form opens in a new tab. Explain which policy each review breaks and why.
4. **Wait for the email.** Google assesses the appeal and sends the result by email.

## Build the appeal on evidence, not frustration

Google's help article does not list documents to include with a review appeal, so the form is only as strong as what you put in it. Repeating that a review is fake rarely adds anything new.

- Name the policy: fake engagement, conflict of interest, off-topic, harassment or personal information.
- Show the gap: no record of the reviewer, a service you do not offer, or a date you were closed.
- Explain the stake: a former employee or a competitor, and how you know.
- Group related reviews that arrived together instead of appealing them one by one.

Since the appeal is one-time, it is the step where a careful policy analysis pays off most.

## When the policy route ends and the legal route begins

A fake review can be unfair without breaking Google's policies, and a review can state false facts about your business in a way that raises a legal question. Google takes requests to remove content for legal reasons through a [separate legal form](https://support.google.com/legal/answer/3110420), where you give the exact URL and explain what is unlawful and why.

Whether a review is defamatory is for a licensed attorney to judge. If a legal route makes sense, it is handled by a licensed attorney. See [Google Review Defamation: When a False Review Goes Too Far](https://removemyreviews.com/services/defamatory-reviews/) for how that route works.

## If the review has to stay

Sometimes the platform decides the review stays, and the platform makes the final call. A short, calm reply then tells future customers your side; [How to Respond to a Negative Google Review](https://removemyreviews.com/guides/how-to-respond-to-a-negative-google-review/) shows how.

If you want a second look before you spend the appeal, our [Google Review Removal Service](https://removemyreviews.com/services/) starts with a free audit, and you pay only if the review is removed.

## How we handle every review

- **You pay only if the review is removed.** If the review stays up, you owe nothing for that review.
- **The platform makes the final call.** Google and every other platform decide what comes down under their own rules. We prepare the strongest request those rules allow, and no one can promise a removal.
- **Legitimate routes only.** Policy reports, appeals, legal requests when a review may be unlawful, and a public response when a review has to stay. No fake accounts, no mass flagging and no fake reviews.

## Questions after a rejected report

### How long does it take Google to remove a review?

Google's help center says review evaluation typically takes several days. Appeals and legal requests follow their own process, and no one outside Google can promise a date.

### Can I appeal a Google review decision more than once?

Google's help center describes the review appeal as one-time, covering up to 10 eligible reviews. That is why it is worth preparing the appeal before you file it.

### Is a fake review always defamation?

No. A review can break Google's policies without being unlawful. Whether a false statement of fact is defamatory is a legal question for a licensed attorney.
