# Google Review Extortion: Pay or the Reviews Stay

Google review extortion is when someone posts 1-star reviews, or threatens to, and demands money, a discount or free service to stop. Don't pay. Save everything and report it to Google; we prepare that report, and you pay us only if the review is removed.

You pay only if the review is removed. Your price is confirmed in writing before any work starts.

## Two ways it happens

The first is a customer threatening a bad review: give a discount, waive a bill or add something free, or the 1-star review goes up.

The second starts with the reviews. Several negative ones arrive at once, then a message offers to take them down for payment. Review extortion like this can come from people who were never customers.

A wave with no demand attached is a different case: [Google Review Bombing: Stop and Report a Wave of Fake Reviews](https://removemyreviews.com/services/google-review-bombing/).

## Don't pay, and save everything

1. **Don't pay or negotiate.** Google's own advice is not to engage with or pay the people behind it. Paying doesn't mean the reviews come down.
2. **Keep the messages.** Screenshots of texts, emails and chats, with dates, times and sender details, plus a link to each review.
3. **Don't delete or threaten back.** The messages are your evidence. An angry reply can be used against you.

## Report it to Google, and to the authorities if threatened

Google Business Profile Help has a page on negative review extortion, with a separate report form for business owners. It asks for the review links, the messages and how the person contacted you.

Each review can also be flagged on its own; [How to Report a Google Review](https://removemyreviews.com/guides/report-a-google-review/) shows how.

If you are threatened with harm, or the demands keep coming, contact your local police. Some owners call this review blackmail; whether it is a crime is a question for the authorities or a licensed attorney, not for us.

## What we do and what we don't

- We order the evidence and prepare the extortion report and each review request.
- We never contact the person, pay anything or negotiate on your behalf.
- Google makes the final call on every review. Timing depends on each platform's own review process; we tell you what to expect in your audit.

## How we handle every review

- **You pay only if the review is removed.** If the review stays up, you owe nothing for that review.
- **The platform makes the final call.** Google and every other platform decide what comes down under their own rules. We prepare the strongest request those rules allow, and no one can promise a removal.
- **Legitimate routes only.** Policy reports, appeals, legal requests when a review may be unlawful, and a public response when a review has to stay. No fake accounts, no mass flagging and no fake reviews.

## Questions about review threats

### If I pay, will the reviews come down?

No one can promise that, and Google advises against paying. Paying can invite more demands.

### Is it extortion when a customer asks for compensation?

A complaint or a request for compensation is not. It changes when a bad review is used as a threat to get something in return.

### What if the review isn't posted yet?

Keep every message. A report to Google is about reviews that are posted; a threat on its own can be taken to local authorities.
